For the first time in Iranian catalyst industry, HDS catalysts of Khwarizmi Technology Development Co. were successfully loaded and commissioned in the hydrogenation reactor of 2nd Persian Gulf Bidboland Gas Refinery.

According to Khwarizmi Public Relations, considering the importance of development and self-sufficiency in the production of hydrogenation catalysts for oil cuttings in the Iranian refining and petrochemical industry, Khwarizmi Technology Development with remarkable success in reaching high performance of gas phase hydrogenation catalysts, from two years ago started its activities to develop the technical knowledge of industrial production of various types of catalysts for hydro-treating of liquid petroleum cuttings. Now, for the first time in the country, based on Bidboland Gas Refinery’s order, succeeded in producing, loading and commissioning of these catalysts in the hydrogenation reactor of C4+ hydrocarbons of this complex.

The Importance of Khwarizmi Catalysts in The C4+ Process

Bidboland gas refinery, in addition to protecting the environment due to reducing the concentration of 4,000 ppm of sulfur in the C4+ product to below 1 ppm, will provide the domestic need of raw material for jet fuel with world quality standards. The hydro-treating catalysts used in the 2nd Bidboland gas refinery reactor have a sophisticated technology that was produced on an industrial scale for the first time in the country by the experienced experts of Khwarizmi Technology Development Company, relying on continuous research and passing successful laboratory tests.

The HDS catalysts used in this refinery have a different physical structure that leads to a reduction in the pressure drop along the reactor bed and due to the use of Nickel instead of Cobalt in different amounts, it leads to an increase in the performance and lifetime of the catalysts in the hydro-treating reactor.

The presence of impure compounds, such as nitrogenous and sulfurous compounds, in the feed, reduces or destroys the activity of the catalyst. Therefore, it seems necessary to remove or reduce these impurities to an acceptable amount to protect the catalysts and equipment of the downstream units.

HDS Catalysts of Khwarizmi used in R-411-001 reactor of 2nd Bidboland Gas Refinery with having the most up-to-date technology in the world, while showing the national production capacity and the possibility of exporting this product and increasing the production capacity for the downstream units of this gas refinery gas, has led to an increase in profitability of this gas unit.
